As summer vacation approached and the thought of not having to make any more school lunches for a couple of months and not having to get up early to rush the kids off to school moved closer into reality, excitement was building. I will admit that I was excited about the idea of summer with the kids. And now, I am not so sure.
Today was really day two of summer vacation for my kids. I say that because last week the went up to the cottage with my parents right after they got out of school on Thursday ( the last day of school ). I joined them on the weekend and we didn’t arrive home until Monday. Since I work evenings and my husband was out of town on a business trip, the kids had to spend another night with their grandparents. The kids finally came home Tuesday afternoon and so Wednesday was really the first day off school that they need to find something to do. Let’s just say it didn’t go well since I had some thing that needed to be done around the house. Ditto for today too! And what I realized late in the afternoon that was probably not a great decision on my part. The kids are just plan bored and you know what happens when kids have nothing exciting to do… they fight. Ya that’s right, the kids were more than a little cranky with each other.
I think I need to get better about scheduling our days. I unfortunately still need to do housework and other work around the house during the daytime since I work evenings but I think I need to schedule those days or hours around some fun stuff for the kids.
