It’s week three of my weight loss journey. I’ve had one week of eating a lot of desserts and one with a lot of learning experiences. After my last post, I came to the realization that I need to exercise more. This was my goal of week 3. Get off my ass and get moving.
Here is my third week in a nutshell-
On Monday, I wrote my blog post and went for a long walk with my dogs. When I returned, I had amazing comments from people on my post and a double dog dare I will never forget. Kim Jurina dared me to run 5k with her by the end of the summer. As a person that needs goals and accountability, I accepted her challenge.
I went straight to the Apple App Store and downloaded the Couch to 5k app for my iPhone. The Couch to 5k system gets you from a couch potato to running 5k in 9 weeks. It seemed like a huge feat, but I wasn’t going to let it overwhelm me. I laced up my running shoes and started my Week 1, Day 1 workout.
For the first week, there is 5 minutes of walking (warm-up) then for the next 20 minutes, you walk for 90 seconds and run for 60 seconds. At the end, there is another 5 minute cool down.
I am not too proud to admit that at points, I wanted to slow down. I wanted to say that it was too hard. I wanted to quit. The good news is, I didn’t. I persevered through it. When I got home and reflected on what I had done, I cried. I actually ran. Not because someone was chasing me. Not because I had missed a bus. I ran because I wanted to and it felt awesome! I just need to remember to stretch before and after my workout. Apparently, that helps
This whole week, I have eaten well and exercised. I even went out on Friday to a Girl Geek event and then hit the club for some dancing. My drink of choice- a tall vodka, water with a fresh lemon (only 55 calories). I love that I can still go out with the ladies, keep to my allotted calories and burn them off all in one night.
Overall, this was an awesome week. I feel strong, confident and proud of my accomplishments. I also managed to drop 2 pounds in the process. WIN! I am now down 4 pounds. Looks like I will be 20 pounds lighter and be able to run 5k in 8 weeks. I am really doing this!!

Jen, you ROCK!! You’re doing great! I’m totally envious of that Walk to 5K app – I’m going to see if there’s anything similar for my Android!!
(((((HUGS HUGS))))) I’m so happy for you!!
Keep it up, this post is so inspiring!
(pretend I am Rob Schneider in any Adam Sandler movie) YOU CAN DO IT!! You are doing it and I am so proud of you! Keep it up lady and I for one will be there at the end of that 5K with a tall vodka water for you
You are awesome!
Why thank you Julia
Which ap are you using? I am inspired and want to work towards the same goal. There are a few different aps. Do you like the one your using? Thanks!
Hi Danielle! Sorry I didn’t reply sooner. I am using the Couch to 5K iPhone app. http://www.felttip.com/c25k/ It’s awesome. It will tell me to walk or run while I am listening to my own playlist. It’s very gradual so it doesn’t seem so daunting.
Hi there, You go girl!!! I’m on week eight day two of couch to five k. It is an excellent program. when I started my cardio sucked so bad! but now I feel great and can see the improvements to my body and mind. have a buddy that will kick your butt to get you out when you don’t really want to go. and kick their butt when they dont want to go. I also use nike+ at the same time. it tracks a little different so you have more info about the same run. and it will keep a total of all your runs/walks. (sorry for all the bad grammar!!) keep up the great work!!
Thanks for you comment Jenn. I am almost at 4 weeks and am absolutely loving it! I have heard about Nike+, I’ll check it out.
