Weight Loss Journey – Food vs Activity

Well, here I am on week 2 of my weight loss journey. Last week, I wrote that I lost a pound and a half and had some real moments of truth. I will share with you how this week went.

Things I Did Well:

  • Stayed away from desserts! Woo Hoo! I even went to a Father’s Day brunch with my Grandpa and didn’t even touch the desserts. Honestly, It wasn’t even that hard to say no.
  • I made good food choices. Okay…this did include a pizza night with the family. But, instead of eating half a large meat pizza, I ate half a medium plain cheese pizza on multi-grain crust (no extra cheese either).
  • I found my absolute favorite breakfast. Chopped strawberries with Greek Yoghurt (0% fat) and sprinkled with cinnamon. The cinnamon sweetens it all up without adding sugar and the consistency of the yoghurt is a lot like sour cream. It’s a yummy way to get 18 grams of protein, fresh fruit and cinnamon is known to boost your metabolism. I highly suggest you try it sometime. SO GOOD!! I have tried substituting bananas and watermelon for the strawberries. Every way I have tried it has been super yummy.

Things I Would Change:

  • I went for an hour long walk last Monday at lunch and then went home and walked the dogs. On Tuesday, I walked the dogs at night and then the rain started. It’s been raining now for almost a full week. I used this as an excuse to stop walking during the day. Unless you burn calories sitting on your butt in front of a computer screen, I didn’t burn any extra :(
  • I still didn’t drink enough water. You were all supposed to remind me. Does anyone have a good way to remember to drink water? I would love your suggestions.

What I’ve Learned This Week:

  • I NEED to drink more water.
  • I need to get more people involved. If I have someone to walk with over lunch, it will help me keep to it. I am thinking of starting a “Lunch Club” with people at my job and who work around me. We would meet, eat our lunches then take a good 30-45 minute walk. More the merrier!

So, here’s the news you have been waiting for. Did I lose weight this week? Yep, a whopping 0.5 pounds. Sheesh! Did I just write that? I find this pretty funny as my justification for not exercising was that I was going to stay within my daily calories. If I ate well, I would lose weight. Looks like I was wrong. I’m positive that if I had walked everyday last week, I would have lost more than half a pound.

I could keep beating myself up or I could finish writing this, get my runners on and get outside for a walk.

Talk to you next week! *doing up shoelaces*

Honestly, Try It!

Thanks for the Greek yogurt suggestion. I have some sitting in my fridge but I wasn’t sure what to do with it besides smoothies. I have noticed if I can get up and active 20 minutes every day walking with the kids or something it does help. Hard to do sometimes though when you work in front of a screen. I have taken to doing Yoga poses every time I get up to get something LOL.

I just bought some more strawberries and greek yogurt this morning. I’ve also decided to start the couch to 5k. Should be an interesting week.

Um, let me just say that you are not allowed to beat yourself up about half a pound! That is still phenomenal and right on track. Girl, you rock! And the fact that you can recognize and analyze your strengths and weaknesses is HUGE to longterm lifestyle success. You are doing great – I am super proud of your progress!! :D
